This course will renew your knowledge of the basics of organic chemistry by reviewing nomenclature, oxidation reduction, typical reactions of functional groups from a mechanistic perspective, stereochemistry, and medicinal chemistry. |

- Nomenclature of molecules containing the 12 most common functional groups (both aliphatic and aromatic)
- Oxidation/reduction relationships between organic molecules
- The nature of each functional group underlying the most common reaction mechanisms involving that functional group
- Stereochemistry, hydrogen bonding, and the importance of these concepts to understanding drug/receptor interactions
- Individual study of one mechanism of reaction (choice from several) to realize the details of reaction mechanisms
