Biological/Medicinal Tactical Approaches to the Challenge of Drug Failure
Course Code: TACTIC

Course Information

Last year’s “Topics and Tactics in Current Drug Design” conference received the most positive reviews we’ve ever had for a first-time offering. Due to this overwhelming response, Dr. Nicholas A. Meanwell, Executive Director of Discovery Chemistry at Bristol-Myers Squibb Research and Development, and Dr. Milind S. Deshpande, Executive Vice President of Research & Chief Scientific Officer of Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., will again chair this conference, with the same structure and principles (if not the same title).

This ACS ProSpectives conference will again look broadly at contemporary topics in drug design and discovery by exploring many of the problems commonly faced by medicinal chemists. Each session will emphasize fundamental aspects of drug design. Speakers will provide a comprehensive synopsis of the kinds of tactics and strategies that have led to the optimization of drug-target interactions against the backdrop of enhancing drug safety and compound delivery in vivo. Many case studies will also be presented.

Two short courses will be offered on Sunday, October 4. In the morning will be “Strategies for Hit Identification” and in the afternoon, “Isosteres in Drug Design.”
